Chase 5% Cash Back Calendar

There are tons of cash back cards out there, but the Chase Freedom® card is one of our favorites. It offers five percent cash back on select categories each quarter if you activate up to $1,500, as well as unlimited one percent cash back on all other purchases; plus, these rewards never expire.

For more information, check out our full review here.

This offer requires Excellent/Good credit.

    Card Highlights

Chase’s cash back calendar for 2018 promises another round of exciting cash back opportunities:

  • January – March: Five percent back at gas stations, plus internet, cable, and phone services. You can simply use your physical credit card, or pay with Chase Pay®, Apple Pay®, Samsung Pay, or Android Pay™.
  • April – June: TBA. Unfortunately, Chase only releases their current five percent cash back categories, so the rest of the year is still to be determined. In the past, the spring cash back categories have been grocery and drugstores.
  • July – September: TBA.  In the past, the summer months have offered five percent cash back at restaurants and wholesale clubs.
  • October – December: TBA. In the past, the Walmart and other department stores have been occupied the holiday months—making holiday shopping a lot more rewarding.

Other important Chase Freedom® benefits

While the Chase Freedom® card is great for cash back rewards, it also offers many other benefits. Here’s what else the Chase Freedom® card offers:

A great current bonus offer

At the time of writing, Chase is offering a $150 cash bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first three months of your account opening. While that’s not the grandest reward, the spend minimum is much lower than other cards.

So, you can get extra cash for making purchases you were going to anyway—and, if you spend in the five percent category, that’s even more rewards.

No annual fee

Many rewards cards come with annual fees, but not the Chase Freedom® card. That said, there are other fees associated with the card. There’s a three percent foreign transaction fee, so for frequent travelers we recommend other travel rewards card.

There’s also a balance transfer fee of $5 or five percent of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater. Finally, there’s a cash advance fee of $10 or five percent of the amount of each transaction, whichever is greater.

Low intro APR

For the first 15 months you have your card, there’s a 0 percent APR on purchases and balance transfers. After that, the rate is 16.24% – 24.99% Variable. This isn’t the highest APR for a rewards card, but it is still fairly steep.

For those who must keep a balance on their card from month to month, try these cards instead.

Other excellent Chase options

While the Chase Freedom® credit card may be a great rewards card, it’s not right for everyone.
